From Engineering to SDET: A Journey with TechGlobal School

Setting off on a new adventure, I started a journey that would change my life, push me to my limits, and bring some surprising wins. It all started with a big decision when I moved to Canada. Suddenly, my engineering degree didn't seem to count, and I wasn't sure what my future held.

I am a graduate of Industrial Engineering and used to work in this sector for many years in my home country. However, after settling in Canada, I applied for jobs in the same industry but received no positive responses. I realized that my education and work experience from my home country didn't directly translate here. I was in search of a new career path for myself. I initially considered getting my engineering equivalency in Canada, which would take years. Then, I heard about the software engineering career opportunities at TechGlobal School, which is highly recommended in my community.

At first, I doubted whether I could do it. My biggest fear was not being able to learn the coding part. However, since my work experience was focused on quality, I found it worth trying. Before starting at TechGlobal, I decided to study a bit of coding on my own. If I understood the logic behind it, I would enroll in the course. This trial journey showed me that I wasn't that far from software and gave me the confidence to pursue it. There was never any doubt in continuing this journey with TechGlobal because the expertise in the field, the discipline of the school in this regard, and the fact that its graduates found jobs very quickly made me determined.

I started at TechGlobal in January 2022. It was a six-month intensive program. The success of the teachers was quite impressive. The class hours were very productive. Each teacher was knowledgeable about the topic they were teaching and prepared very well for each lesson. The documents they used, the weekly assignments, and the quizzes were all very successful in keeping every detail we learned alive. In addition to all this, there were monthly mock interviews. We were responsible for everything we learned from the first day of school during these interviews. This forced us to constantly review everything we learned. And there were consequences to these interviews. In the end, I realized during real interviews that the mock interviews conducted at the school made us very familiar with real job interviews.

I was away from all social life for 6 months. I was completely focused on classes, assignments, and exams. I was constantly studying to reinforce topics and fill in the gaps. Of course, being a mother of two children - one of them was 9 months old when I started school - made this process quite intense for me. Taking care of two children, the responsibilities of being a mother, and my responsibilities at home made things very challenging for me. I was managing my life entirely according to a plan. With the help of my husband and friends, I managed to get through this process, although it was not quite easy.

My belief that I would succeed with the support of the school never wavered from this difficult path. And when I said 6 months, I couldn't believe how fast this journey had come to an end. I received the first job interviews in the first week after graduation. During interviews, I saw that I was using everything I learned in school very comfortably, and I realized that the mock interviews conducted at school were much more difficult than those real interviews. I felt relieved when I understood this, and I started to answer every question without thinking, without hesitation.

After a few rounds of successful interviews, they scheduled a final one in the first week of the job-hunting process. In the final interview, there were challenging algorithm and behavioral questions, but I could answer them all without thinking, and without struggling. And an offer came 2 hours later. I was so happy that I couldn't believe the process was completed so quickly. It felt unreal. But it wasn't a coincidence, of course. My choice of TechGlobal, receiving education in such a great and disciplined school, and maintaining the same discipline for 6 months had led me to this result.

When it comes to working as an SDET, I struggled in the first 3 months of starting work. It was a completely new working environment. However, the education I received at school and my past quality experience gradually turned me into a favorite employee. I became a Lead Engineer in the same company, where I started in August 2022, within a few months.

I recommend TechGlobal to anyone considering joining the SDET program. I suggest choosing them for their discipline, instructors who are very knowledgeable about their work, their constant renewal of education programs with new technology, their supportive documentation, their methods of preparing for real interviews, and their efforts to keep every piece of information they teach alive.
